Kokosalaki revives Vionnet

Vionnet

You may not have heard of Vionnet, the French fashion label founded in 1912.  Handkerchief hemlines, bias cut fabrics and halternecks are all typical styles from that era and were invented by Mme Madeleine Vionnet herself. She was forced to close in 1939 because of the war but remained an influence until her death in 1975. The brand was bought by Lummen in 1988, and they seem to have found something of the Vionnet in Sophia Kokosalaki as she has been chosen to revive the Vionnet brand in a partnership with Barney's department store in New York. Sophia seems like a perfect choice, she has a good way with fabric and a classical sensibility that seems perfect for Vionnet.
