Amber posed the question yesterday "Is Fur Becoming Fashionable?" With sales topping the £500 million mark Stella McCartney has spoken out against the use of fur in fashion, and Alexander McQueen, Julien Macdonald and Jean-Paul Gaultier, fashion designers who still use fur. She told the Independent on Sunday: "There is nothing fashionable about a dead animal that has been cruelly killed just because some people think it looks cool to wear... The continuing use of fur is a real problem in the fashion industry. There is an issue with people out there assuming that fur trim is fake when most of it is real." The fur industry is difficult to regulate, but surely there is a market for fur coming from animals reared in kinder environments? The production of fake fur isn't entirely virtuous, as the manufacture is very polluting. A lot of people are disgusted by fur anyway, so maybe it's down to the designers to ban furry thoughts from their minds.
