Make the Most of eBay Fashion BooBoos

46_1 I love eBay. Don't you just love eBay? I particularly love it when I stumble across some poor seller who's got a genuine designer item up for sale, but who has mis-spelled the designer's name. Result: no one else can find it through the search function, and it sells for a song! If you have the time and patience to search all the possible mis-spellings of your favourite  items as well as their real names, you can sometimes grab a bargain: for instance, those of you hoping to track down Primark's must-have gold dress may be interested to know that some people think "sequined" is spelt "sequence"...

If you don't have the time to trawl the site for mis-spelled items, mind you, new search engine eBooBoos promises to find them for you. Just type in the name of the item you're looking for (with the correct spelling), and it searches eBay for all possible misspellings. When I tried this out, unfortunately, all I found was a whole bunch of very fake items, which had probably been mis-spelt that way deliberately, but you never know - there could be the odd little gem a-lurking amongst all those "Snugg boots" and "Ucci" bags...

  • Thanks Amber,

Hope you and your readers are finding some good deals on ebooboos.com

I understand about the "Fake" items, there's quite a few people who exploit the misspelling in order to have people view their items. But like you say, there's always that diamond-in-the-rough. Even for my own searches, I try to use the "Words to exclude" feature of ebooboos to try to weed out the spam-type listings. I also try to search only in the related category and sometimes change the "sort by" field to retrieve a different set of results depending on how many misspelt listing there are.

Hope this helps a little and I appreciate the kind words for eBooBoos.

Be persistent in digging for the gold!

Just type in the thing you want (spelled correctly) and it will search ebay for all the possible misspellings. Saves a lot of time.

Just keep quiet about it, can't have everyone stealing our bargains!

I just put in 'sequence dress' in the ebay search engine and came up with 13 entries! It seems this is widespread (nice Karen Millen dress included!)
