Lily Cole: "I Eat"

Untitled_4

Poor Lily Cole seems to have become something of a poster child for the "Make London Ban Skinny Models" debate that's been threatening to overshadow the clothes at London Fashion Week - and she's not happy about it.

"I'm fit. I'm healthy. I eat," she told The Telegraph's Hilary Alexander. "When half the world is starving and a good proportion of the other half is suffering from obesity, to put me on the front page is ridiculous." So, what's the verdict? Lily is pictured above at the Gharani Strok show on Monday, and I have to say, she looks pretty good to me...

I don't understand this. Some people are skinny, slim by nature and put the same weight scale for everybody is ridiculous for me. For someone low BMI may be the right weight... This is the beauty of the world that people are different. I don't know if lily cole is healthy or not, but she may be this slimness and it's obvious that she may be healthy and look that slim same time. Being slim not necessarily mean anorexia.

I think she looks lovely and entirely proportional, and you can't see any hip bones or rib cage poking out (Unlike the aforementioned Kate Bosworth)! They could really have chosen a more appropriate poster girl for this debate.. I wouldn't be surprised if Lily's BMI was within range! (has anyone even checked?)

Sadly, when it comes to these 'scandalous' pieces, I think they go for the 'big names' - those models who would be recognisable to people who aren't always knowledgeable of the fashion industry (and let's face it, Lily's pretty fab) - so sadly the crap has landed at her feet.

I mean - it's a perfectly legitimate concern. I do think that there are a lot of models who are probably unhealthily underweight, and even emaciated; and I think there are women out there who try to emulate / achieve the super-thinness that can lead to devastating results.. but it's not Lily's fault, so I can completely understand why she's so peeved!
