How To Wear Skinny Pants

Here's a first hand review of Gap's 'Audrey' pant/trouser. I bought a navy pair a few months ago for a job interview. The trousers look really good in a 60's Jean Seberg (who is my fashion icon for this season) kinda way. They cost me £50, and I'm a bit of a stingy git, so sometimes I still moan inwardly when I think of the price. You don't have to spend £50 quid though, I've got a pair of skinny(ish, you need a slight flare at the bottom) jeans I sewed up to where the calf muscle starts.

I've put together a few items which would look good with skinny crops. The key is to keep tops simple and proportionally different: loose and large or cropped and small. The overall look you're going for is fresh, unpretentious and not too girly.

Wear the blue  shirt from Topman in the smallest size that will fit you and pair it with some navy or brown cropped skinnies. Add some brown ballet pumps from Pretty Ballerinas for a really simple look. Or cultivate a bohemian look with the houndstooth jacket from Wallis, a pair of black or grey skinny crops, carved earrings from Accessorize (£9) and classic Chinese style pumps from Faith, reduced to a mere £10.

I really think this kind of slightly cropped trouser is going to be big, maybe by springtime. I've seen them on Kate Moss so it must be true!

I absolutely LOVE the commercials which only remind me of the timelessness of the lovely and delightful Audrey Hepburn. I think she would rather approve of the new interpretation of her self-expression. Also, The Gap, Inc. made a generous contribution to the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund at the launch of this ad campaign which would have pleased Ms. Hepburn.

I love the commercials, actually. They're catchy and I don't think it does any harm.

  • Do you brits have the HORRIFIC Gap commercials that feature Audrey in a bastardation of Funny Face. when I saw the photos at the Gap I was like, okay, she was famous for skinny pants. But who is in charge of her estate that let her clip be chopped up and put to a rock beat and repeated over and over in the most annoying fashion?

  • The skinny pants may be something I'm going to pass on as well - or at least, buy only one pair of so that I can give it a shot. It's a great sophisticated look, but msot that I see wearing it are waif looking. I'm pretty curvy in the hips area and the skinny jeans tends to emphasize my hips and make them look bigger.

Crops, however, I really love. I hated the past guachos, but skinny crops are yum!

Does anyone find the thought of buying a cropped style in a "tall" kind of funny? I'm going to pass on the pants- anything cropped/shrunken/skinny just makes me feel like the clothes don't fit me. Again.
