George at Asda Selling UK Size 4?

2886

I've yet to see this for myself, but rumour has it that George at Asda has become the latest retailer to start stocking clothes in a UK size 4. There was mucho fuss when Topshop and Miss Selfridge started doing this last month, but where the Arcadia group leads, others tend to follow, so it will be interesting to see if the tiny size 4 does start to become a common sight in stores across the land. Lord knows size 6's are like gold dust most of the time so I can't really see it happening myself, but if it does, you can be sure that poor old Victoria Beckham will no doubt get the blame...

Anyone been to Asda, lately? Are they really selling "clothes for miniscules", as BB's Nikki puts it?

It's true! I was there last night and was astounded! Size 4 indeed - might as well call it a child's size and be done with it!

Last time I was in Asda the smallest size they sold was 10. Things have changed a lot since half a year ago.

Not that I've seen. Though they really need to get more 8's in, I can never find anything in an 8 over there!

I really hope they do start doing size 4 in my nearest Asda.I have C.F ,so I'm rather tiny and skinny.I usually have to get an age 11 from Asda,so yay I can get some of their bargain clothes now :)

So it's true then! Nicola, I sometimes shop in the children's department too, although at the upper end of the size range! It must be hell trying to find size 4!

Is the uk size 4 equiv to us size 0 or smaller than that? Because I know it is hell trying to find clothes under size 0 for me here and sometimes then they are too small, its rather irritating

I am so envious of you girls who fit into clothes that small, I'm a 14 and would just love to drop a few dress sizes. I bet my thigh wouldn't fit into a size 4 shirt!

Posted by: The Bag Lady | September 5, 2006 10:18 PM

I'd say it's probably smaller than a US 0, Sheila - I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that a UK 4 would be getting into minus sizes in its US equivalent. Pretty damn small!

I know some women who are that small. No sick diets, just small boned. They'd appreciate this since they hate dressing like children.

According to a size chart online a UK 4 is a US 2. I have friends that small so people shouldn't rave about skinny bitches b/c its natural 99% of time.

Last time I went in to Asda they had lots of sizes 14 plus even a size 24 but no sizes in anything to fit me (8-10) so it seems wierd that they would start stocking size 4!

I'm 5'2" and a quite curvaceous and healthy UK size 6 (U.S. size 0), so I can totally understand girls that are my height or shorter needing a size 4. It's all about height in proportion to weight, not just a skinny model thing. There are a lot of small people out there.

i wish they would start stockin smaller sizes for me. im a healthy male, i just happen to be super skinny! im a 26inch waist, but the smallest i can normally find is a 30inch! :(

I hate people cursing about us 'Skinny B*tches!' (Their words not mine.) To tell you the truth the sizes have just been fiddled with according to the measurements - Since seeing the first size 4 in topshop petite last year i could swear it was wrong - I was always a size 6 and have never lost any weight now i'm a 4 (?!?) So i measured a few of my new size 4 clothes to some of my old 6's from about 5/6 years ago and they are exactly the same - It confirms what i believed since i first saw that 4. The label sizes have been dropped a notch. A few other people have found the same thing...With miss selfridge too! And Gap claims to have a uk 2 - definately not - I thought it was US sze but the assistant said it's uk sizing... It fits like a 6 and baggy though so not very good at all! Sorry everyone!

Currently in the UK, it's easier to find a nice piece of clothing if you're clinically overweight than if you are naturally petite (I speak from experience). About time they stock a Size 4, I say!!

after reading these comments im glad they're catering for a range of sizes. as long as they don't promote that size 4=cat walk model size, it's fine. it's just aimed at small-framed women...who are NOT anorexic. it's all about the way the media portrays this, so let's hope people don't hype this up.

I do think that sizing has been changed, or at least it seems that way, most likely to make people feel better about themselves.

I've always been a size 8 but I'm finding that they're slowly getting too big. This is mostly annoying when I'm wearing jeans and the like since they always tend to be big around the waistband. I've lost no weight and my body just hasn't changed (I guess I'll be damned when my metabolism goes though).

Plus it all depends on where you buy. I've had a size 10 jumper be too tight on me and size 6 clothes be a slack fit. It's hit and miss and I just look for things that fit me now. You can't always trust labels.

It's true us 'skinny' people get a lot of stick, im always gettin told to put some meat on my bones i think people believe its a compliment! ha well i understand y they might think that but the reality is that it gets old! how wud they like to av to wear clothes that are always hangin off their arse n baggy on their legs n chest!!!!!!!!! Give me cleavage over skinniness anyday!!!!!!

when will people realize that bodies come in all shapes and sizes. thin, fat and everything in between. what makes a shop selling a size 4 worse than a shop selling a size 14?

everyone needs clothes that fit, so sell all the sizes !

I'm so glad to see a forum with people NOT constantly complaining about size 4.
Size 4, to my knowledge is a US size 0 or possibly slightly smaller.
I don't understand all this fuss about size 4.
I'm 15, 5"6 and size 4, I don't quite understand why shops should be getting complaints because they stock clothing for people of my build?
Where's the crime in that?
And the way they market it as "petit" for shorter people is beyond me too, tall people can be naturally slim as well as shorter people.
I think this might be to just avoid even more hassle in the media.
Maybe people would understand if there was more hassle for selling much much larger sizes, as being "encouraged to be dangerously overweight by larger sizes" is surely, more life-treatening than being underweight?

Has noone EVER thought that there are little people about who would like to be able to go shopping without looking in the kids section!? I am 25 and at 5'1" and nearly 8 stone I am a perfectly normal size for my stature, it isn't my fault that I'm a small build and was happy the other day to be able to buy my first smart skirt ever which fits me well.. go topshop! Although I used to fit perfectly into a size 6 and when I was 18 could fit fairly well into a size 8, maybe if companies stopped making sizes bigger to appease self conscious women everywhere then there wouldn't be as much of a fuss...

yes its true. Although i dont think it is that bad. The reason i am saying this is because i am 12 years old but 13 in feb, but thats not the point, i am small, so all my friends wear all the designer or fashionable clothes in the womens section but i am stuck in simple kids clothes! I can fit into the rare occasional adults stuff but thats it. Picture me-- i am about 4ft6/7 i have a 22inch waist and i have approx. 26inch legs. I think it is good that they have started size 4s because i can fit into most of their clothes and they are fashionable. By the way the clothing range that do them is G21. I was struggling for a decent-looking-teenage bikini to wear in the summer but when i saw great bikinis in there i was real happy so now me and my mates could even get matching- lol. I think it is good that small kids of my age get to be fashionable. Oh, and by the way i am not anorexic or anything like that it is just the way i am, my build. I think that there should be a shop for small teens because the amout of teens who are small is growing, or people should start and sell size 4s with leg length options eg. regualar, small, long etc.
Just thought id let you know!!
love
