Ethical Fashion 3: The Best of the Rest

Ethical and eco-friendly fashion isn’t all about designer labels, there’s also plenty of affordable options out there that will benefit the planet and your wallet. The high street is starting to introduce more ranges - People Tree and Hug both have concessions at Topshop, Marks and Spencer has a Fairtrade range, and Future Organic at Oasis is a 100% organic demin range. A few stores also have one ‘green’ product; Gap has a fair trade t shirt and American Apparel have a Sustainable Edition organic cotton range.

The real cost of goods is one of the core issues around 'ethical' clothing, thats perhaps why they are more expensive? When we buy low priced goods (of any kind), someone further down the supply chain is undoubtedly being paid less than fairly. I am not necessarily in a position to spend alot, however I do value and make use of my consumer decision and essentially buy less.

Hmm, I was looking at eco-friendly clothes (and cosmetics) the other day.

I agree with everyone else, the eco clothes usually cost a lot more. It's annoying because many people want to help and buy more ethical clothing, but the high prices stop them from doing so.

I found Natural Collection on the Friends of the Earth site, it looks quite good. They sell clothes as well as other ethical items.

    And they aren't expensive either.

I LOVE American Aparrel tshirts. They're super soft and comfy.

I love the term "boy beater tank". That's cute.

  • I LOVE the shoes!! They are so cute! I wish they weren't so expensive. I think people would be more like to buy eco friendly products if they were at least the same price or cheaper as non-eco friendly items.
