My mother and I have a close relationship. When I say 'close' I mean she rings me up about three times a week to tell me what clothes she's been buying, and I often do the same to her. The last time I visited I discovered she'd managed to pick up a knife-pleated empire line maxi dress for all of £3 in Primark. I spent the entire evening prancing around the house in it pretending I was an extra from a 70s Bond film and pursuading her she needed to give it to me. Alas, she wasn't giving up her bargain even though she'll only wear it once (at Christmas) so I've been searching for an alternative. Black maxi dresses are surprisingly sexy and very flattering, there's no need to fake tan your legs (hell, you don't even need to shave them) and they scream easy sophistication at posh parties...
