Dare to wear

I would complain that I’m far too short to carry off a cropped jacket. Yet I just know that mini-pop star Kylie would show me up to be a fashion wimp by looking fabulous and not at all stumpy in a short jacket.

So now I’ve convinced you that even shorties like me can pull off a cropped jacket why don’t you take a fashion risk of your own this week. OK, so not all obscure trends will suit you, and I’m not suggesting you create a whole wardrobe out of hard to wear items. But try on a few and I’m willing to bet that something you imagined you could never wear actually makes you look fantastic. Just remember not to dwell on the ones that don’t, as much as I would love to wear skinny trousers, I know to leave them on the hanger now.

All these clothes are a little bit different, and I can't claim to like them all, but they are bound to look fabulous on one of you!

Yellow Shift Dress at Miss Selfridge

It may have been quite a while since she's worn it, but this yellow dress is one of the only times I’ve noted Paris Hilton being universally praised for her dress sense. Now Miss Selfridge – the high street queen of yellow - have come up with an almost identical version, give or take a bow. It’s new in this week and costs £40 – you don’t need a heiress budget for that.

Ebay Watch: Sold out ranges

I forgot to post this on Friday – the usual ebay watch day, so think of it as a Monday treat! Although I’m not encouraging anyone to stock up on limited edition ranges and sell them on ebay at inflated prices. Ebay can be a great place for getting hold of that piece that you have to have, but it had already sold out by the time you got out of work at lunchtime.

Great news for those of you in the UK who can't get to the big cities to visit Urban Outfitters stores, the UK online store is now finally up and running. FCUK Sale Bargains

I hate sale shopping in the actual shops – all the rails of disorganised clothes make it too much like a jumble sale for my liking. Online though, is a different matter, the clothes are clearly categorised and you’re less likely to make a rash decision if you know you have to pay postage. The sale is still going strong at FCUK and there are some really nice things left with quite dramatic price cuts  (it’s just a shame these boots had already sold out).

Jessica Simpson's Tricia Fix Dress

I can’t say I’m always a fan of Jessica Simpson’s dress sense, but this floaty dress is gorgeous, I love the cross over beaded straps, the empire band (which looks especially pretty at the back), and the tropical pattern. The best part is that it hasn’t got too much of an A list price tag - $220 is a-just-about-reachable amount – just make sure you invest in some Hollywood fashion tape – this neckline doesn’t leave much to the imagination.
