Gemma Ward - A True Catwalk Queen

CQ's Kim Foster pays homage to the other famous Catwalk Queen called Gemma!

VoguecoverGracing this month's UK Vogue cover is my favourite model Gemma Ward.

Whether or not it's simply because she is an Aussie like me that I love her so much, I think most people can agree that this girl has something extraordinarily special about her. That "something special" has seen her go from the sunny beaches of Western Australia to the world's major catwalks and fashion houses.

Scouted in 2002 when she appeared on the Australian television show 'Search for a Supermodel', few may be aware that she didn't even make it through the early rounds! Yet, today she is arguably one of the world's top models and one of Australia's most famous exports.

Gemmaward2GemmawardHer features - often described as elfin - and her other-worldly look have helped her to score major advertising campaigns for Prada and Yves Saint Laurent to name but two. Among her many magazine covers, last year she also snared the cover of Time magazine - hardly a glossy fashion mag! Her unique look has also sparked a new wave of similar doll-like models such as Lily Cole, Heather Marks and Devon Aoki.

Now living in New York, the future looks even brighter for this 18 year-old with such a constant and massive international demand. One wonders how such a young person can handle it all? Nevertheless, the skies the limit for Gemma Ward and I think she's fantastic. [Kimberley Foster]

GO AUSSIES!!! I love Gemma, she's got a great personality. Did you know she's getting into acting as we speak?

Oh, are you serious! I hope she doesn't suck at it >_<. Any idea what she's working on?

Much <3 for Gemma.

Apparantly she's rather good. I've heard she's working on an indie film titled 'The Black Balloon'. It's about an autistic boy, as I hear. The director would be the same person who filmed 'Pink Pyjamas' (which Gemma was in in 2001, when she was 14)
