Yay or Nay Wednesday

Ynskirt
It was nice to see that the general consensus on last week's skinny white jeans (from River Island) was Nay, unless you happen to be tall, skinny and as stylish as Kate Moss. I'll sleep easy knowing that I'm not going to have to pretend to like them in three months time when asked about 'hot trends'! This week I've found a completely different way to cover up your bottom half with this gathered sash skirt (I'll tell you who made it next week). It's definitely a directional piece that needs a stylish girl to pull it off, but is it quirky cool or a step too far? Yay or Nay, and why?

Nay nay nay. Just because it looks silly and I would look silly. I think it would add a funny bulky bit in a funny place, doesn't matter how quirky you are its just not right!

Ugh, nay. It doesn't look well-made, it would just serve to increase the size of my thighs. It would be better if the fall of fabric fell along the side or the back, I think, but it just doesn't work in front.

Nay. The basic idea is okay, but there's way too much bulk in the front. It looks like it wouldn't even stay up.

Posted by: Elinor | May 10, 2006 5:58 PM

Nay. It doesn't look right at all.

Posted by: Catherine | May 10, 2006 6:16 PM

Nay! It's just bad.

Posted by: Lexi | May 10, 2006 6:18 PM

NAY! It's just.... speechless!

Posted by: Uhecca | May 10, 2006 6:34 PM

A big fat NAY! Too much fabric in all the wrong places.

Posted by: shopdiary | May 10, 2006 6:41 PM

I'm going to have to say NAY, even though I kinda like it. The color and material are superb, but the extra stuff hanging off it.... just not good!!

Posted by: Sarah-Jean | May 10, 2006 6:45 PM

Nay. It's not an appealing (or flattering) design.

Posted by: Melanie | May 10, 2006 7:22 PM

YAY! It's interesting, cool and would look hot as long as ya wore it with confidence! I want it!

Posted by: Meg | May 10, 2006 8:10 PM

YAY! Love it, very original!

Posted by: Silvia | May 10, 2006 8:44 PM

Nay, but I'm sure there's someone who can pull it off. I like the idea a lot, but I feel like the material will bunch in weird places. Maybe if the bunching was more over the knees than over the thighs.

Definate yay. I really like the colour and the gathered detail on the front is really interesting. I would wear this.

I'm torn on this one. I love the style, but the fabric looks too thin and flimsy. I think it would have better been better done for winter in a heavier fabric. So I think it has to be a reluctant nay.

Posted by: Jenni | May 10, 2006 9:55 PM

YAY. I like it - it's different and edgy. I would wear it.

Posted by: Ashya | May 10, 2006 10:56 PM

Yay...looks cool!!

Posted by: andrea | May 10, 2006 11:28 PM

Well nay, it looks like it got on the wrong side of a sewing machinge-lawn mower-Freddie Kruger combination, which is not a good look. You know, unless you feel you can wear it with confidence.

Posted by: Charlotte | May 11, 2006 12:06 AM

yay, if worn with the confidence of an art school student smoking cloves outside of class with her profs

Posted by: sade | May 11, 2006 12:10 AM

no way nay nay nay

Posted by: clare | May 11, 2006 1:36 AM

Nay. I like the idea and all, but it just doesn't look right.

Posted by: Caroline | May 11, 2006 11:35 AM

Nay. I don't think I could walk with that lump hanging out. I'd feel like I was limping..

Posted by: thursday | May 11, 2006 11:48 AM

nay.....it looks like a 3rd leg is suppose to stick out there!!!

Posted by: reverie | May 11, 2006 1:13 PM

HELL NAY!! haha, the colour makes it also look kind of unpleasant. It might look less heavy in cream or white but it would still be ugly and lopsided. Gross

Posted by: pinksugar | May 11, 2006 1:26 PM

yay for the colour and material..

nay for the weird sticking out bit...

Posted by: christina | May 11, 2006 1:53 PM

Oh, look, an instant recipe for pot belly that even draws attention to the fact that the crotch is a place not unlike a fountain.

Not on your life. Nay!

Posted by: Alix | May 11, 2006 1:53 PM

I love the last comment! And I agree why have a clump of material hanging off the place which you don't want attention drawn to? I agree that a little ruching is good but this is just badly made and wierd looking NAY (if you hadn't guessed!)

Posted by: Deb | May 11, 2006 2:03 PM

It's ugly. The color isn't helping matters...neither is the bow. It looks like bunched up sheets or something.

Posted by: Whitney | May 12, 2006 3:57 AM

yay. if only for the reason that it's not a pair of skinny jeans.

Posted by: Lisa | May 12, 2006 4:58 PM

NO NO AND NO AGAIN. IT LOOKS LIKE A BUSTLE GONE WRONG, TWO PIGS FIGHTING IN A SACK ETC ETC. NAY.

Posted by: anna | May 15, 2006 3:51 PM

ooh, it's a shame beause it is so close to being really stylish, but somehow that pocket-like thing lying on the tummy seems just a bit off, making your tummy possibly look really bulgy.. oh what the heck, I'll give it a yay because I'm sure it can be worn well.
