Nifty 60s - Retro Dresses are back

There's a vintage shop around the corner from the office which is currently showcasing the most fabulous pucci-style empire line mini dress in the window. I have a feeling my lunchtime excursion will result in my finding out it's a) too small and b) too expensive, so in the meantime I'm consoling myself with some high street alternatives. The 60s mini dress is most definitely a look to keep an eye on - check out these catwalk to high street options, all inspired by Anna Sui's fall 2006 collection.

Hippy Chic at Mango
60s1
- Dress (right) £35 Mango. For this laid-back look think retro prints, opaque tights and antique leather boots. Keep it from looking too boho with smart accessories and straight hair.

Monochrome Mod at Topshop
60s2
Dress (right) £75 Topshop - Channel 60's icon Twiggy in this cutesy look (best suited to young girls with small boobs). Add round-toe shoes and black eyeliner, but skip the spotty tights if you're scared of looking too twee.

Whiteout at Warehouse
60s3
Dress (right) £80 Warehouse - highly detail cutwork lace is a trend to watch out for, so start showing it off before everyone else catches on. Go for the full catwalk look by teaming it with tan accessories, or try black or grey if you're less adventurous!

Hey i love the styles and wanted to know if you could send me mail about the late 1960's fashion. I am doing a senior project on it and need some advice

  • Lily

The prints are gorgeous. I love Anna Sui, her style is psychodelic (discon Lush bubble bar you know)

Ivy - I'd certainly wear any of the three and I'm told I'm very much a lady. Your behavior should reflect your personality, not your wardrobe.

Oh, pish, Ivy. I would hardly respect anyone who judged me based on my wardrobe and not my words, so I couldn't care less whether or not someone didn't me seriously because I wore hippie-ish, loose, or "unlady" things (whatever that means). I'm young and small and wear a lot of ruffles and babydoll dresses and flowery things, and I'm sure that people initially think I'm naive or ditzy, but I personally enjoy the contrast between my appearance and my personality. If you've got the brains to present yourself as an intelligent person with worthy opinions, you can wear whatever on earth you want. Don't let your clothing speak for you.

well im 11 years old and i gotta say i would wear that like jemma sed it cud be a bit more accesorizes some beads or sumin then u cud easily pull it off!

  • I think it can be chic if you accessorise it right and have the attitude to pull it off.

And who wants to be taken seriously? Fashion should be fun!
