Oh to be a Beauty Editor…

Jean_godfrey_june_1

Jean Godfrey-June, a beauty columnist at Lucky Magazine, has just released her book ‘Free Gift With Purchase: My Improbable Career in Magazines and Makeup’, an insight into the world of beauty writing. It’s comments like these that make us drool with jealously…

‘Ms. Godfrey-June receives 50 to 250 product samples daily, most of them just some dull cream purporting to moisturize some portion of your body.’

250 a day! Dull? More like super moisturised and glowing I'd say. Then comes this revelation…

‘Along with the cosmetics is swag, from Pucci scarves to yoga mats to novelty chocolates. And at Christmas beauty editors have received entire Prada outfits, Cartier watches, that sort of thing.’

If you can bear it, read the rest of the article at the New York Times, or the book is on sale from Amazon. And if you like the sound of that one, Blogger Tia Williams has also penned a novel based around her experiences of being a Beauty Editor, called The Accidental Diva, and Editor of Cosmo Sam Baker’s book Fashion Victim uncovers the life of a Fashion Editor. I'm a beauty journalist and I adore it. *smirks* Lolz, before you stone me to death, I will say that trying out a million different products plays havoc with my already problematic skin - but I never can resist. =P

Did you get the latest issue of Lucky? There's a little...sampling, I guess you could say, of the book. A little bit of the intro, some excerpts, some beauty tips. It looks cute, but it also makes me jealous because she doesn't seem to have the greatest attitude about her job. It's like complaining about your diamond-encrusted shoes being too tight.
