Tulip skirts, which resemble an upside down version of their flower counterpart, have been around for a while now, but spring is the perfect time to add some va-va-volume to your wardrobe with a blooming skirt. If you have a straight-up, straight down type figure, then the voluminous tulip skirt can help provide you with those elusive curves. The rule of thumb for volume is to keep it to one half of your body, so to balance out the volume below the waist, wear it with a figure hugging top. Cinch in your waist for extra curvaceousness.
Topshop’s soft grey skirt (£35) is the most tulip-y of the lot, and the one I’d go for did I not have an entirely inappropriate body shape for this look. ASOS’s black buttoned version meanwhile is styled on Ashley Oslen, who pulls off the shape with aplomb. And it's reduced to a tiny £8 at the moment. Luella’s tulip skirt (pictured in green for $24.99) for Target is shorter and way more toned down on the volume stakes, making it a good choice if you’re curvy already. [Charlotte Howells]
