Oscar Fashion Moments: Women In Black

Blackosc
What do you do when you want to look classically chic at the Oscars? You give La Donatella a call, and go for chic strapless black gowns with fishtail skirts. Drew Barrymore (left in Atelier Versace) and Beyonce Knowles (in vintage velvet Versace) both went this route last year for their arrivals on the red carpet. They were blasted by some bitchy critics for being a bit dull (E! Fashion Police likened Drew to an old maid, but I don't have much faith in people who also thought this was a good look) but I think these timeless looks are good safe choices with an old-Hollywood vibe. Nobody ever accused Audrey Hepburn of being safe, and she always went for simple elegance and block colour. Though I always love it when celebs take risks, you can understand why they don't with so many fashionista bitches around and if they're going to go with a classic choice, you can't go far wrong with flattering black Versace!

I'm very suprised that beyonce would have been slated for that outfit, she looks AMAZING, she totally stood out for me that year.

Funny you should have put her picture up because only a few days ago, i was trying to remember oscar outfits from that year and the only one that really stuck in my head was Beyonce's!!!!

Its a shame when people get all "fashion-frantic" and forget the power of understated elegance and beauty.

Black and Bling......always works! if you have a figure to die for....well! the world is your oyster!

I think Drew looks really good too, but im not sure about the lace panelling and the fact that you can see her legs through the side.....hmm....a bit "hookerish"?
