Dressed in Betty
After the gown-fest of the Oscars I’m still fixated by dresses, so sit tight if you’re waiting for non-dress clothes to re-emerge. I’ve always found the selection at Designers at Debenhams a bit hit and miss and Betty Jackson’s Black collection is usually no exception. This year though, if you’re going for the sharp secretary look – think pencil skirts and Roland Mouret – her dresses are spot on.
The high street has adapted Mouret's Galaxy dress with gusto, but if you found most copies a little cheaply put together for your liking, then these wool versions will look and feel better, and keep you warmer. I love the fitted wool mix dress in natural, it’s nice to see this style of dress in a lighter colour, and the belt makes it look extra fabulous. Other highlights are a flattering ruched black jersey wrap dress and a square neckline tulip dress. They are not the couture dresses of the Oscars, but at £60 to £75 least we can afford them.
