With a new set of clothing trends comes a new beauty look, but make-up trends are much slower to catch on than clothes, and often catwalk looks have no wearable interpretation in the real world. This season though, the message is clear – lipstick is back. Pink lips pouted their way down the runway at the spring shows, and the trend seems set to continue into autumn but swapped for a redder hue, with Narciso Rodriguez and Diane von Furstenberg to name but a few going for red in the autumn/winter shows. Like many, I’ve become pretty attached to nude lip balms and easy glosses. Let's face it, bold lips are definitely more high maintenance. But teamed with a killer outfit, lipstick seals your look. So go on, give those neglected lips some attention for once. But keep lips matte and eyes simple to avoid overkill.

Face Stockholm have a great range of colours and this shocking pink shade named Kar (£13) is great for going bold this summer. If you’re not quite ready for full on lipstick right yet, then Bobbi Brown has just released lip sheer, a lip tint that wears and lasts like a lipstick. The limited edition baby pink shade is perfect for spring.

There’s no half measures when it comes to red lipstick, you have to go for it! Mac’s Lady Danger ($13) is a vivid matte red for all you vixens out there. For a film star pout Benefit’s Zero Guilt ($16) is a Marilyn-esque red with a suede texture. [Charlotte Howells]
