The Best Winter Coats

It's getting colder outside, and it's not going to be long before we're subjected to wearing our Winter coats every time we step outside. So what better excuse to get shopping that to buy something you know you'll wear constantly until the end of February? To help you out, here's some of our favourite smart coats to keep you toasty warm this Winter.

Coats1
First up is a very sweet 60s style babydoll coat ($98 at Delias) which will look just as great with boots and thick tights as it will with jeans and trainers. For something more classic, the bouble breasted cotton mac (£55 at Topshop) will never go out of style and goes with just about every outfit you own. A belted waist is universally flattering. It's great for accentuating a waist on hourglass figures or for giving one to anyone with a straight torso.

Coats2
At the risk of banging my head against a big (velvet covered) brick wall, if you want to try the stylish fabric this season as outerwear, Principles have a gorgeous velvet trench coat reduced down to £98. If you have a bigger budget to play with (lucky you) Milly's amazing ruffle-front velvet coat is the most amazing luxury buy (it's £380 at Net-a-Porter, so don't wear it in the rain).

Coats3
Miss Selfridge have just launched a limited collection in their flagship stores, and the brown high-waisted dress coat is bound to sell out quickly (£120, also available online). If you miss out on it, for the same price, you can pick up an equally beautiful Russian-inspired embroidered coat from Warehouse.

Not keen on these dressy coats? Look out for some more casual options tomorrow...
