This time of year is perfect for wrapping up in the most gorgeous knitwear, and this season is amazing for unstructured sweaters, layered cardigans, wraps, shawls and shrugs. It's not enough to pull on a plain cardi or jumper this season, go for something far more exciting with draped, wrapped, extra-long and super-short styles from high street and designers alike. Here's the Catwalk Queen's pick of the bunch.

Grey is a great colour to wear this time of year. It's not as predictable as black, but it doesn't get dirty as easily as white! Anthropologie's unstructured 'Poet's muse' wrap cardigan ($198) can be worn a number of ways, and would be gorgeous draped around a strapless dress or with a pair of tailored trousers. A slightly more casual look comes with the Si'en 'Melody' cropped cardigan ($176). As it's such an interesting shape, it's best to keep the rest of the outfit simple. Finally, the high street gets the look with Oasis' cowl neck sweater dress. Wear it with thick tights and boots if you dare, or over jeans with pretty flats for a modern, layered look.

These real showstoppers are great for wrapping up without sacrificing style. Their loose and luxurious style also makes them perfect for fat days, curvy girls or even expectant mothers! ASOS's long bell cardigan (£25) is based on a style worn by Kylie, while Say's 'Shadow' sweater in teal ($194) is being described as this season's stylish alternative to the poncho.

Finally, a funky long cardigan is a great way to cover up on a night out if you're fed up of velvet and military jackets. Dorothy Perkins mink coloured mohair look cardigan is a bargain at £20 and will go with just about everything. For something a bit more girlie, the curve-flattering black loose knit cardigan from Warehouse (£45) will become a wardrobe staple very quickly!
